Domestic Violence Occurrences in Same Sex Relationships

Domestic Violence Abstract In this paper, I have discussed domestic violence occurrence in same sex relationships. I have assessed the reasons and consequences of domestic violence in such homosexual partnerships. I have also provided a comparison of the findings with that in heterosexual relationships. In the end, I have given my opinion about what should be done to avoid this brutal crime. Domestic violence is initiated when the pattern of violent behaviors in an individual tries to control the beliefs and behaviors of intimate partners so that the other person can be dominated. The Intimidation and fear of the other partner can help one to gain this desired control. Domestic violence can legally be defined as any assault, battery, sexual assault, sexual battery, or any criminal offense resulting in physical injury or death of one family or household member by another who is or was residing in the same single dwelling unit(as qtd. in Peterman Dixon, 2003). It is acknowledged by a number of psychologists and sociologists that domestic violence is the behavior that is learned and includes any words or actions that hurt another person. Threats and any kind of forcing behavior can result in domestic violence. Physical, emotional and sexual abuse can also lead to violence.
